COMPETITION

What started out as a three-day event with less than 10 boats in 1927, the BACARDI Cup now attracts more than 200 sailors each year from some 23 countries & the attention of national and international media. The tradition of camaraderie and competition surrounding the Trofeo BACARDI began in Havana, Cuba where it was first sailed as part of the Mid-Winter Championship known as the Cup of Cuba.

In 1962, the regatta found a new home in Coconut Grove/Miami at the Coral Reef Yacht Club, where it has continued to sail the Star Class from every year since.

The BACARDI Cup, now part of Miami Sailing Week, offers sailors from a variety of different classes the chance to compete in various regattas, all of which will be sponsored by BACARDI, MSW title sponsor.

In 2010 BACARDI Miami Sailing Week, in addition to the Star Class, added the Viper 640, Melges 20, Melges 24, & J/24 Classes. For 2011 additional 2 new classes will be added to program. The goal is to attract a minimum of 200/250 competing boats for an average of 500 participants.

The prestigious Coral Reef Yacht Club will continue to be the O.A. for the BACARDI Cup and BACARDI Miami Sailing Week. CRYC Race Committee Chair Mark Pincus will also be BMSW Regatta Chairman and will skillfully manage the race organization, judging and other logistical solutions with the support of Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, US Sailing Center, Shake a Leg and Coconut Grove Sailing Club. Regattas are held on three different courses on Biscayne Bay.
